Medicare Demystified

Medicare was created by Act of Congress in 1964 and signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965. It is intertwined with Social Security that controls eligibility but has broken off and is controlled by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS.gov) Medicare is super confusing to many individuals no matter if they are eligible to enroll or have been enrolled for years. At the Buckley Agency, we will Demystify it for you.

Currently we offer Medicare Part A, B, C and D plans from Aetna, Humana, Wellcare, Clover and UnitedHealthcare®.

Medicare plans are broken down into 4 basic parts:

Part A: Hospitalization helps cover inpatient care in hospitals, including critical access hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities (not custodial or long-term care). It also helps cover hospice care and some home health care. Beneficiaries must meet certain conditions to get these benefits. Most people don't pay a premium for Part A because they or a spouse already paid for it through their payroll taxes while working.

Part B: Medical Insurance helps cover doctors' services and outpatient care. It also covers some other medical services that Part A doesn't cover, such as some of the services of physical and occupational therapists, and some home health care. Part B helps pay for these covered services and supplies when they are medically necessary. Most people pay a monthly premium for Part B.

Part C: Also known as a Medicare Advantage Plan appears out of sequence because it is a stand-alone plan that offers all of what traditional Medicare offers PLUS other extra benefits like Dental, Vision and Hearing, Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies and the Buckley Agency offers all Medicare offerings.

Part D: Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) is available to everyone with Medicare. PDP's cover prescription drug costs and can be purchased on a stand-alone basis, in conjunction with a Medicare Supplement or Medigap, or as part of a Medicare Advantage Plan.
